This year we are trying two prototypes in one gamelab, because we really want to see a strong prototyping mentality. Sounds like a great idea. I would still argue that artists and programmers will be underutilized in day 1 and maybe day 2 of each block, but at least Gamelab 4 should be much stronge...

I can tell from experience working at multiple AAA studios that every person in the team is involved in the design process. Again, I think this is a very good strategy during development, because everybody has good ideas and it would be a waste to ignore them. But this needs a decent game concept a...

What, exactly, is preventing designers/IGDers from doing this themselves? I don't see why you could not spend your free time on creating a prototype. Also, you say that you think that Gamelab is supposed to simulate a triple-A studio environment and then you say you would like it to be a fair envir...

Because Gamelab is supposed to simulate a triple-A studio environment, not a charity. There is no joy in working extra hours for a team in which the average member works considerably less for the same payoff. There's more to life than Gamelab, and maybe it's just me, but I would like it to be a fair...

As indicated above, I think that game development is a quite specialized field, and as a result of this people tend to be very good at some things, and much better at those things than other people. Since there would be a number of prototypes to chose from, I would expect you to chose to join a team the concept of which you agree with. Yes, taking artists and programmers out of the concept phase is exactly the point! Of course it's always useful for a designer to consult a specialist, but that's occasional and can be done without one of them having to sit next to the designer 8 hours a day. I think it would be much more rewarding ...

Which I consider quite a waste of time and energy... that prototype could probably be made by one or two people, where the rest of the team is working at 30% productivity. Well for one thing 3 credits for a prototype? That's more than completing a game Not sure what this means. Gamelab is a 6 credit...
