Custom Username Support?

Would it be possible to make a slight adjustment too the forum and add an extra textbox in user profile for a display name and than go in to the PHP and replace the username variable with the display name variable for the user? Although you can of course put your username inside your signature, I'm certain the majority would prefer having there username represented normally rather than there student ID?

Default phpBB installs do not support this, this mod however does add this support and also works for the 3.0.11 install this board is running on.

It would help if everyone has a uniform signature.
But I agree the current numbers are not great to identify persons.

I think the limit of 6kb for the avatar upload is a little bit too low; it's hard to upload anything. Maybe push this up a little? :)

Maybe add a user defined username with their student number behind it in brackets.

Yah, I tried that mod last week. It broke LDAP authentication. No new users could login to the forum. I had to remove the mod. If it gets fixed, I'd be more than happy to try it again.

This setting is limited when using LDAP authentication. Only a few fields can be pulled from the LDAP servers and the displayName attribute is not one of them :(

I have looked into this option but it doesn't seem to work with LDAP authentication. I posted a message on the Separate Login and Username mod support forum and if the mod author responds, I'll definitely try again.

Disabling LDAP authentication in favor of this mod is not an option.

I agree, I had to crop and push my avatar down even further.
And I guess we're back to using our cattle branded numbers again. Fun!
